Aktion Agrar

„Aktion Agrar“ fights for an agrarian transition – towards an ecologically and socially viable agriculture. Their campaigns about milk crisis, food waste and the seed industry intervene into the German and European agricultural policies and unmask the food industry with in-depth research and media work. Aktion Agrar wants to extend the organization's working methods and fundraising. Bewegungsstiftung funds this organizational development with 55, 000 Euros in the course of three years. We already supported Aktion Agrar in 2014 with campaign funding (13,800 €).

Adopt a Revolution

The project Adopt a Revolution started five years ago to support the civil protest movement against the Assad Regime in Syria. Since then, the situation has escalated into a violent crisis. Estimates count 500,000 casualties, more than half of the population is fleeing. In the middle of this catastrophic situation groups within the Syrian civil society assert themselves and try a third way of un-armed peaceful resistance and local grassroots projects. Adopt a Revolution supports them with donations and public relations. In view of the escalated conflict and a rapidly growing opposition Adopt a Revolution also faces challenges. With which strategy can they achieve most? How can the team be better equipped? The team members want to explore these questions during an organizational development which will be supported by Bewegungsstiftung with 19, 800 Euro. We already supported Adopt a Revolution in 2011 with campaign funding (6,000 and 15,000 Euro).

Afrique-Europe-Interact

Afrique-Europe-Interact (AEI) is a transnational network with only unpaid activists, which supports refugees and migrants in their struggles for free movement and equal rights. Moreover they stand up for a just and self-determined development in the respective countries of origin, e.g. by supporting farmers in Mali in their struggle against landgrabbing. In order to maintain and expand their level of cooperation between African and European activists, the network aims to increase their income by donations. Therefore AEI wants to extend and professionalize their fundraising-strategies. Bewegungsstiftung supports these activities in and about Mali with an organizational funding of 60,000 in the course of three years. We already supported AEI in 2015 with campaign funding.

Pinkstinks

Pinkstinks fights against sexist advertisment and products, and against media content that attributes a limiting gender role to children. The organization points out the connection between unrealistic beauty ideals and a rising number of girls that feel uncomfortable in their bodies. In opposition against these rigid gender roles, Pinkstinks organizes online and offline protests; and lobbies for a law against sexist advertisement. Bewegungsstiftung supports PinkStinks with an organizational funding of 20,000 to make sure the growing organization can be financed. We already supported Pinkstinks with campaign funding (2012 - 7,000 Euro) and organizational funding (2013 - 70,000 Euro).

Bündnis für sexuelle Selbstbestimmung

March for life – under this slogan, Christian fundamentalists and right-wing nationalist abortion enemies come together in Berlin each year. They demand the complete prohibition and punishment of abortion in Germany and Europe. The campaign "My body, my responsibility, my choice“ by the coalition for sexual self-determination wants to hold against these values against reactionary marches and the growing influence of Christian fundamentalists and parties such as AfD. The coalition wants to organize a strong counter movement, e.g. with a conference, panel discussions and actions, and defend the right for sexual self-determination for all people. .

Leipzig kohlefrei

The campaign „Leipzig kohlefrei“ wants to push for a coal phase-out from the grassroots-level. Their goal is that the municipal utilities Leipzig present a road-map to ban coal power from their electricity mix until 2016. The municipalities are supposed to substitute bought-in electricity with contracts about 100 percent renewables or replace them with their own power generation from renewable sources – until 2021 at the latest. In order to achieve this, the activists want to put pressure on the municipalities and spark a debate about Leipzig's energy supply with public actions.

Kotti & Co

The tenants community "Kotti & Co" fights against the process that drives poor people out of the city because of rising rents. It their aim to make housing provision a part of the public services of general interest. Therefore Kotti & Co demand a recommunalization of social housing units (140.000 flats), in which the majority of members live themselves. Because of a special subsidies scheme, the body of social housing is the greatest factor in the process of displacing people with low income. In the past years, Kotti & Co succeeded in putting the issue of social housing on the political agenda. Now it is crucial to realize real changes in the housing policy and create majorities for it. Bewegungsstiftung provides 14.000 € for the commitment of Kotti and Co.

Gemeingut in BürgerInnenhand - Common Goods in Citizens' Hands

Since 2010, Gemeingut in BürgerInnenhand (Common Good in Citizens' Hands; GiB) has been advocating the preservation and democratization of public services. The association stands up against the privatization of water, education, health care and other welfare services. GiB is the only organization in Germany that informs extensively about Public Private Partnerships (PPPs) and organizes campaigns on this issue. For several years now, a large and stable majority of society has been skeptical towards new privatizations. GiB wants to help the attidude of this majority to achieve concrete political results and show that public investment in welfare services can be done much better without privatizations. On the long term, GiB wants to achieve that public services are run on tax money, that investments are orientated towards the demand and financed from the national or federal budget, or from governmental bonds. Part of the solution is that infrastructures of public services should not be used for financial products that harm the common good; e.g in a private infrastructure fonds. GiB received an organizational funding by Bewegungsstiftung from 2011 to 2013. The new organizational funding amounts to 65,000.

Anti-Coal Campaign

Whoever takes climate protection and an energy supply from 100 percent renewables seriously has to phase out burning coal as fast and as organized as possible – that's what the coalition „Phasing Out Coal Berlin“ thinks. The coalition wants to achieve that all coal-fired power plants in Berlin and Brandenburg are shut down and prevent that new open-cast coal mines in the region are opened. Old and active open-cast coal mines in Lusatia contaminate the river Spree with Eisenocker (Braune Spree) and Sulfaten. The latter have caused real problems to several Wasserbetriebe along the Spree. Now it is the right time to put the topic on the agenda: on one hand, climate activist are mobilizing to the UN climate negotiations in Paris coming up in the winter. On the other hand the Divestment campaign is gaining more and more momentum (divestment meaning withdrawing investments from pollutiong fossile fuels). The activists want to use this atmosphere of criticism against coal to make the topic play a decisive role at the Abgeordnetenhauswahl in September 2016, and the following coalition negotiations. Bewegungsstiftung funds the campaign with 10.000 Euro.

Womens' houses 16 days-16-states tour

The idea of the „16-days-tour“ is to bring up the issues of overcrowded women's houses and exclusion by daily allowances into all federal states; and to carry out public actions together with women on 16 days in all 16 federal states. The tour - between February 19 and March 7, 2016 - will be documented by a film team. The tour is organized in the context of the women's house campaign „Making difficult ways of lives lighter“, by employees and inhabitants as well as by allies of autonomous women's houses. The aim of the tour is to put forward two main demands: first, all women and children affected by violence should obtain free shelter and free qualified support without much bureaucracy in a women's house – regardless of their income, their place of living, their status of residence or a potential handicap. Second, all women's houses in Germany should be financed in a way that is reliable, based on legislation and meets their needs, and does not depend on invidual cases. The campaign is funded by Bewegungsstiftung with 15,000 Euros.

Citizens' Initiative for Climate Protection

The non-profit organization Citizens' Initiative for Climate Protection (Bürgerbegehren Klimaschutz, BBK) organizes campaigns that incite local public utilities to banish coal from their energy mix. The campaigns also aim to create a political debate about phasing out coal. They are inspired by a similar campaign in 2010, coordinated by Klima-Allianz, in which BBK was involved. They initiated and supported citizens' initiatives, e.g. in Aachen and Dachau, which successfully pressed local public utilities to phase out coal. Movement foundation supports the campaign with 4.500 Euros. BürgerBegehren Klimaschutz was already funded as a part of the Energy Round Table Alliance. Since then, the Berlin-based alliance fights for a recommunalization of  Berlin's energy grid and the foundation of local public utilities.

Women in Exile

The feminist organization "Women in Exile" considers itself as one of the few intersections between women's and refugee's movement. Their goal is a fair society without exclusion and discrimination, with equal rights for all human beings, no matter where they come from or where they are going. They focus on abolishing all laws that discriminate against asylum seekers and migrants, as well as on the connection between racism and sexism. In 2011 the group "Women in Exile & Friends" was founded in which women with or without migration background confront society with problems and demands of female refugees, and which conveys these messages to politicals decision makers. Bewegungsstiftung already supported the campaign "No lager for women! No lager for anyone!". Now the foundation provides the organization with structural funding of 45.000 Euros, which enables them to carry on fundraising, project development, media work and lobbying.

urgewald

Urgewald is an environmental and human rights organization that keeps an eye on banks and corporations if their activities damage people or the environment. The organization reveals which banks finance nuclear industry or heat up global warming with their credits, or sponsor the arms industry with their clients' money. Their investigations are basis for protest campaigns and media work. Bewegungsstiftung finances the extension of their Public Relations sector with structural funding of 70.000 Euros in the course of three years, to enable urgewald to carry out their media work in even higher quality. Bewegungsstiftung supported urgewald before with a structural funding of 45.000 Euros between 2008 and 2010, to help with building up a network of active members.

In German, the name "urgewald" is a pun playing with the words "Urwald" (= old-growth forest, jungle) and "Gewalt" (= power).

Structural change now - no Nochten II

The regional alliance wants to prevent plans for the open-cast lignite mine Nochten II in Lusatia (East Germany). For this project, four villages and parts of two more places would have to disappear and 1.700 people would have to be resettled. The livelihoods of a whole region would be destroyed. The alliance wants to encourage people in this low-developed area to resist the demolition, to use their right of democratic participation and to stand against the powerful coal lobby. Therefore the alliance organizes events, demonstrations and vigils and informs people with posters and a newspaper. Funding: ca. 13.700 €
